In Chengannur, a student named Akshay R Pillai (16yrs) drowned in the Pampa River while swimming on Thursday at 12:30 pm at Eramallikkara Thattavilam jetty. Akshay, the son of Rajesh and Jayashree from Thiruvanvandoor, slipped into the shallow part of the river and struggled to stay above water. Despite efforts by his friend Mithun and cousin Ananthu to rescue him, they were unsuccessful.
Nearby bathers heard their cries for help and raised an alarm. Local rescue attempts were also unsuccessful, with the fire department eventually bringing Akshay's body to shore. Akshay, a student at St. Thomas Higher Secondary School in Thirumoolapuram, had his mother Jayashree as a teacher at the same school. The cremation is scheduled to take place at the family home at 4:00 pm on Friday, with Akshay's father Rajesh, who works abroad, expected to arrive on the same day. Akshay has a sibling named Akshara.
