Aarey to BKC Metro 3 in sight, MMRC trials to be completed within a week

Anjali

The initial phase trials for the Aarey to BKC Metro 3 route in Colaba-Bandra-Culaba have been successfully concluded in Mumbai. These tests are scheduled for completion by May 31. Subsequently, the certification process from Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) and Research Design and Standard Organization (RDSO) will commence, marking a significant milestone towards the operationalization of the first phase.

MMRC is overseeing the development of the 33.5 km Metro 3 route, which was originally slated for operational service. However, delays have been encountered, necessitating an expedited focus on putting the Aarey to BKC section into operation promptly. Senior MMRC officials have confirmed the completion of all Metro 3 tests, with plans to finalize them by May 31 and thereafter initiate the RDSO certification process.

The RDSO certification will be sought imminently, followed by the arrival of their team in Mumbai for testing and certification. Upon receipt of this certification, the safety certification process from the Commissioner of Metro, Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will be initiated, paving the way for the commencement of the first phase.

With trials concluded and the RDSO and safety certifications nearing completion, the first phase is on track for implementation. The completion of these processes may lead to potential operations by the end of July, allowing Mumbaikars to realize their dream of commuting via the underground metro from Aarey to BKC by the close of July or in August.
