The flood situation in Assam worsened on Thursday, affecting over 1.98 lakh people in nine districts. One person drowned in Hailakandi district, bringing the death toll in the state to six due to floods and rain since Tuesday.
A total of 1,98,856 individuals were affected in districts including Nagaon, Karimganj, Hailakandi, West Karbi Anglong, Cachar, Hojai, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao according to an Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report.
Cachar is the most severely affected district with 1,02,246 people affected by flood waters, followed by Karimganj with 36,959, Hojai with 22,058, and Hailakandi with 14,308 among others. Additionally, a total crop area of 3,238.8 hectares has been washed away, and 2,34,535 animals have been impacted.
