Pune: A brain dead man's lungs were brought to Pune from Raipur in Chhattisgarh and transplanted on the patient. This saved the patient's life. The patient was suffering from severe acute respiratory infection. He needed a transplant as his lungs were failing. Due to the green corridor, it was possible to bring a lung from Raipur and transplant it on a patient in Pune in time.
The patient has been admitted to a private hospital in Raipur. His family decided to donate his organs. His lungs were given to a patient at the DPU Super Speciality Hospital in Pimpri. Organs need to be transplanted carefully and within a stipulated time. The lungs were airlifted from Raipur to Pune airport. He was then taken to the DPU Super Speciality Hospital through the green corridor with the help of the traffic police. It took a total of three hours. The Raipur and Pune police, as well as the airport authorities, helped in this. The transplant operation was possible as the lungs from Chhattisgarh reached Pune in just three hours after covering a distance of 1,33 km in a record time.
The patient was immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment. Doctors said that the patient has responded well to the transplant and will recover soon. The patient was suffering from severe acute respiratory illness. So he was rushed to the hospital. He was administered oxygen through extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). As his condition worsened, he needed a lung transplant. A successful lung transplant was performed on the patient. This is the second lung transplant at the DPU Super Speciality Hospital in the last two weeks.
Organ donation is a noble deed. With this precious donation, we were able to save a precious life. We brought the organ in time with quick action and transplanted it. The organs were brought from Raipur to Pune and successfully transplanted with the help of advanced technology and skilled doctors. - Dr. Sandeep Attawar, DPU Super Speciality Hospital
