Chhatrapati Sambhaji nagar : The Health Department of Gangapur revealed a case of abortion performed by an Asha activist in Bakwalnagar near Valuj in January. The primary suspect, female activist Pasar, was apprehended by Walaj police in Rahatgaon, Paithan taluka. Vaishali Ravindra Jadhav was identified as the arrested woman. Following Vaishali Jadhav's confession, Sunil Lahurao Meghare and Ganesh Sonaji Savandkar were also arrested by the police on Friday, with abortifacient pills seized from them.
Vaishali Jadhav, an Asha worker assigned by the health department to deliver healthcare services at the village level, operated from Mother Care Building. Complaints were lodged directly with the Pune authorities via a helpline, alleging that women were undergoing abortions based on gender diagnosis tests at the center.
Upon receiving the complaint, Dr. Ramesh Pawar's team, led by Medical Superintendent of Gangapur, Sudam Lagas, engaged with Bakwalnagar police on January 30. The team conducted inquiries and lodged a formal complaint at Walaj police station.
