Devendra Fadnavis resignation drama continues...

Anjali

In New Delhi, the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis continued on Friday. Fadnavis met Union Home Minister Amit Shah twice within 24 hours. Shah advised Fadnavis not to make an immediate decision. It is believed that the final decision will be made after Modi's swearing-in ceremony, and Fadnavis' proposal may not be accepted.

In light of the BJP's failure in the Lok Sabha elections, Fadnavis expressed his willingness to resign from the position of Deputy Chief Minister as a matter of moral responsibility. Fadnavis informed the BJP's central leadership that if he is relieved from his governmental duties, he intends to travel across the state to strengthen the organization.

Fadnavis has discussed this plan with Amit Shah. Despite two conversations with Shah, Fadnavis remains steadfast in his decision to resign. While Shah has listened to Fadnavis, the final decision is pending. Following discussions with BJP leaders in the state, Fadnavis indicated his readiness to step down as Deputy Chief Minister. He was set to travel directly from Mumbai to Delhi for a meeting with Modi and Shah, but was summoned to Nagpur instead.

Fadnavis held discussions with senior Sangh leaders in Nagpur before heading to Delhi. He arrived in the capital on Thursday night and engaged in detailed discussions about his resignation with Shah. After participating in the 'NDA' meeting in Parliament on Friday, Fadnavis met with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar at Praful Patel's residence in Delhi. Subsequently, Fadnavis approached Shah to urge him to make a decision on the resignation proposal. However, Shah's focus on forming the NDA government has kept him occupied.

As a result, he advised Fadnavis to refrain from leaving the government. The swearing-in of Modi's cabinet is scheduled for Sunday, June 9, at which time a final decision on Fadnavis' proposal is expected. The potential departure of Devendra Fadnavis from the state government could lead to increased instability. Therefore, a Grand Alliance party official expressed the view that Fadnavis' resignation may not be appropriate. In the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP contested 28 seats and secured victory in only 9.
