The decline in BJP's vote percentage in major states has impacted its performance in the Lok Sabha elections compared to the previous election. The party received 36.56 percent of the total votes nationwide, resulting in a loss of 63 seats due to a slight decrease of 0.74 percent from 37.30 percent in the previous election.

The most significant losses were seen in the key states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Rajasthan, where BJP lost a total of 61 seats due to a 5 percent decrease in votes. In contrast, Congress saw an increase in its vote share from 19.46 percent to 21.19 percent, leading to a rise in the party's seat count. In Uttar Pradesh, which has 80 Lok Sabha seats, BJP's vote share dropped from 49.98 percent to 41.37 percent, resulting in a loss of 26 seats.

On the other hand, the Samajwadi Party observed a substantial increase in vote share from 18.11 percent to 33.59 percent, securing 37 seats. Additionally, in Rajasthan, BJP's vote share decreased from 59.07 percent to 49.24 percent, causing a loss of 10 seats, while Congress gained 8 seats despite a smaller increase in vote percentage. Madhya Pradesh played a significant role in BJP's total seat count of 240, with the party winning all 29 seats.

Conversely, Congress experienced a decline in vote share but managed to secure more seats compared to the previous election. In Maharashtra, BJP faced a setback with 14 fewer seats, attributed to a marginal difference in vote share compared to the Congress-NCP-Shiv Sena alliance. In West Bengal, BJP lost seats despite a slight decrease in Mamata Banerjee's vote share, while RJD in Bihar saw a vote share increase but did not significantly benefit in terms of seat count.
