Indian security forces shot dead 12 Maoist insurgents in a recent clash in the central forests of Chhattisgarh state. The encounter took place in a remote area of Bijapur district, following intelligence reports of a rebel gathering.
Local police chief Vivekananda Sinha confirmed the recovery of the bodies of the slain Maoists and reported that two security personnel sustained injuries from home made bombs during the operation.
