Heavy rain and strong winds caused fatalities in various parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, on Tuesday. Two individuals lost their lives in Medak, with one fatality each reported in Warangal and Hyderabad. The casualties in Medak occurred due to a wall collapse at a poultry farm near Rayulapur village in Kaudipalli mandal. The deceased were identified as Subrahmanyam (45yrs) and N. Nagu (35yrs), both construction workers. In Warangal, a person was killed when a tree fell on him near Katralaya village in Wardhannapet mandal along the National Highway.
In Hyderabad, an individual died from electrocution in the Bahadurpura area after coming into contact with an electric pole. The heavy rain and hailstorms in Hyderabad disrupted vehicular traffic, providing relief from the oppressive heat. The downpour lasted an hour, flooding roads in some areas and causing tree falls due to strong winds. Emergency teams from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) were deployed to clear stagnant water and fallen trees.
The rain led to extensive traffic congestion in central parts of Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Madhapur, and Gachibowli. Traffic jams were also reported from the Raidurgam Biodiversity junction to IKEA and other stretches on the IT corridor, affecting vehicle movement in the outskirts of the city. Additionally, many districts, including Karimnagar, Medak, Warangal, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, and Mulugu, experienced rain and thunder storms.
The Met office forecasted further rain and thunderstorms in parts of the state for Wednesday. The adverse weather conditions disrupted the election campaign, leading to the cancellation of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s public meeting in Karimnagar as strong winds caused damage to the setup.
