Gang involved in breaking donation boxes at Tarakeswar temple in Yerawada arrested Over 200 thieves caught on CCTV

The Yerawada police have arrested a gang that stole Rs 2 lakh by breaking 6 donation boxes at the historic Pandavakal Tarakeshwar temple in Yerwada. During the investigation of the crime, the Yerawada police were able to identify the accused by examining about 200 CCTVs from Pune to Ahilyanagar in Nagar.


Swaroop Rajesh Chopde (age 21, Ra. The arrested persons have been identified as Manjari Budruk (originally from Nagpur) and Artha Vatkar. The police recovered Rs. 1 lakh and a motorcycle from them.


Sudhir Vasantrao Wambure (67) Shani Temple, Yerawada village) has filed a complaint. The thieves entered the temple by breaking the lock of the main door of Tarakeswar Temple between 1: 30 am and 4: 45 am on June 4, 2024. They broke open 6 steel donation boxes of the temple and stole around Rs 2 lakh cash from them. The issue was raised in the monsoon session of the Assembly.

The police officers and staff of the investigation team tracked the accused by looking at about 200 CCTV footage from Pune to Ahilyanagar in Ahmednagar. Constable Kiran Ghute conducted technical analysis and zeroed in on the accused. One of the accused, Swaroop Chopra, was detained at the Pune railway station on August 4. When he was questioned, he named Rajan Patel, Akshay Shahu, Atharva Vatkar, Amit Sheria (all from Ra. He confessed to having committed the theft. The motorcycle was stolen from Chandannagar.
