Gondia : Increase in per capita income, improvement in health status.

Gondia district, which is affected by Naxalism and shares borders with Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, has witnessed an increase in per capita income. The district is known as the granary of Maharashtra, with a significant amount of paddy cultivation leading to the establishment of agricultural factories and related businesses. This has resulted in the creation of job opportunities and economic growth.

The per capita income in the district for 2021-22 was Rs.1,37,362, showcasing a notable rise over the years. The economic structure of the district shows that 21.6% of the gross income is from agriculture, 20.2% from industry, and the remaining 58.2% from the service sector. The per capita income has shown a steady increase from Rs.16,063 in 2001 to Rs.46,878 in 2011 and further to Rs.1,22,224 in 2020.

This growth is attributed to advancements in agriculture, ancillary industries, and services. Gondia district has made progress by increasing the number of small-scale industries, improving communication infrastructure through road construction and air services, and government efforts to eradicate Naxalism.

Educational opportunities such as pilot training and agricultural schools have contributed to the development of the district. The law and order situation in Gondia is reported to be satisfactory. In terms of industrial growth, the district saw the commencement of six micro, small, and medium-scale projects worth Rs.198 crores in 2022, providing employment to 941 individuals.

The following year, the investment in the industrial sector soared to Rs.508 crore, offering direct and indirect employment to 1341 people. The district is home to a total of 22,899 small and medium industries, creating over one lakh jobs.

The health sector in Gondia district has also shown progress, with the establishment of a government medical college and the Arogya vardhini center benefiting the residents. The district boasts 45 primary health centers, 10 rural hospitals, a sub-district hospital, 258 health sub-centers, and urban healthcare facilities including a district hospital and a women's hospital.
