Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the web series' IC 814: Kandahar Hijack 'has been in the news ever since its release on Netflix. While there is a lot of confusion over the names of the terrorist characters in the series, now the comments made by the hijacked passengers about the hijackers are also in the discussion. This series has once again refreshed the old wounds on the minds of Indians. On 24 December 1999, an Indian Airlines flight took off from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, for Delhi. Five terrorists were on board with arms and ammunition. They seized the aircraft 40 minutes after it took off. The five terrorists were flown to the Taliban-controlled city of Kandahar in Afghanistan via Amritsar, Lahore and Dubai.

In return, India released Masood Azhar, Omar Sheikh and Mushtaq Ahmed. Meanwhile, various media outlets recently interviewed the passengers of the hijacked plane. Some of the passengers claimed that one of the hijackers had asked them to convert to Islam.

Shakir slit Rupins throat, asked passengers to convert to Islam: Pooja Kataria
One of the passengers, Pooja Kataria, who was rescued, told India Today in an interview. "Shakir was the most brutal of the kidnappers. He killed Rupin Katyal by slitting his throat. He also asked the passengers to convert to Islam. He said that Islam is superior to Hinduism. He wanted all the passengers to convert to Islam.

"Shakir told me his name was Doctor. All of them called him a doctor. He seemed to learn. He spoke three or four times on the plane. He wanted us to convert to Islam. It is better than Hinduism. He strangled Rupin Katyal to death on the flight. Rupin and his wife Rachna Katyal had gone to Nepal for their honeymoon. He killed Rupin who was returning from honeymoon. It was very shocking to see this.
