In just five days between May 6 and May 10, Bengaluru experienced heavy pre-monsoon rains leading to the uprooting of around 271 trees and the falling of 483 branches, as per data from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). To address these incidents, the BBMP has assigned a team to each assembly constituency and has set up 11 additional teams to work citywide. Furthermore, the BBMP has acquired two cranes and two JCBs to assist in removing larger trees. In a first-time initiative, the BBMP has introduced five bike teams to swiftly clear fallen branches. These teams will promptly arrive at the affected locations equipped with cutting tools to expedite branch removal. To accommodate the cleared branches and wood, the civic body has designated six temporary dumping yards in addition to the existing eight dump yards.
