A few seconds before halftime, Stegen landed awkwardly on his knee while trying to stop a ball coming into the net. His right leg has been badly injured. According to local media, Stegen was taken from the stadium in an ambulance. He was then wheeled out of the hospital. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said Stegen's injury "looks serious and it's a big blow for us."
Against Villarreal, Robert Lewandowski scored twice in the first half, Rafinha scored twice and Pablo Torre scored once. Lewandowski is the top scorer of the tournament with six goals in six games.
