Mumbai : There are a total of 3809 posts of security guards on the establishment schedule of the Municipal Security Force, out of which about 1984 posts are vacant. Also, around 150 security guards have been ordered to join the city disaster response team. These additional responsibilities and vacancies have increased the workload of the security guards working in the security forces.

The Municipal Union has demanded from the Municipal Commissioner that the administration should immediately fill the vacant posts, as well as create the necessary new posts by reviewing the newly created security checkpoints, additional responsibilities, watchtowers, etc.

The working security guards have to do extra work as it is not possible to keep the security posts and watch points without security. The workers allege that they are being made to work in two to three consecutive shifts against the provisions of the Labour Act. Although the employees are not able to express their anger directly due to the uniformed staff, there is resentment among the employees.

The organization is constantly looking for new positions. A meeting was also held in August 2023 with the aim of revising the existing qualifications to fill the vacancies. The proposal was approved in the meeting. Ten months after this meeting, the vacant posts of security guards have not yet been filled. Therefore, these posts should be filled soon and the working security guards should be relieved, the association said in a letter to the municipal commissioner.
