Raid in Chhattisgarh Over Alleged Bitcoin Scam

TDN

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out a raid in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, focusing on suspected bitcoin transactions linked to the recent assembly elections in Mumbai. This action follows accusations from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against NCP MP Supriya Sule and Congress state president Nana Patole.

The investigation is part of a broader inquiry into the Gain Bitcoin fraud scheme, which has seen cases transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) since a Supreme Court ruling last December. Gaurav Mehta, an employee of an auditing firm, has been summoned by the CBI for questioning related to the embezzlement case.

The BJP has released an audio tape allegedly featuring Sule and Patole, raising further questions about their involvement. Former police officer Rabindranath Patil, arrested in connection with the bitcoin scam in 2018, claims Mehta provided him with multiple audio recordings, including those of other officials.

As the ED expands its investigation, it is looking into Mehta's potential connections with political figures and government officials. Patil's complaint to the Election Commission suggests that Mehta may still possess unauthorized bitcoins worth hundreds of crores.
