Rain washes out first day; only 35 overs of play; Bangladesh 107 for 3

Only 35 overs of play was possible on the first day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh.

Only 35 overs of play was possible on the first day of thesecond Tst first dayetween India and Bangladesh. Fast bowler Akash Deep (2/34) and veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (1/22) gave India a solid start. Bangladesh were 107 for 3 at stumps on the first day.

Parts of the Greenx Park Stadium gr o und in Kanpur remained wet due to heavy rains the previous night. The toss on Friday was delayed by an hour. India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to field first. India opted to go in with three seamers without making any changes.

He bowled three overs but could not pick up a wicket. Mohammed Siraj, on the other hand, failed to get a wicket. For Bangladesh, Shadman Ismail (24 off 36 balls) batted in a positive manner, while the other opener Zakir Hasan (0 off 24 balls) just tried to stay on the pitch. Skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto (31 off 57 balls) and Mominul Haque (40 not out off 81 balls) then steadied the innings. While the duo were trying to take Bangladesh to a strong position, Ashwin trapped Shanto leg before. After that, Mushfiqur Rahim (6 not out off 13 balls) and Mominul batted with patience.

After just 9 overs, the play was stopped due to bad light. . Later, the ground was covered due to heavy rain and no play was possible.

Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record for the most wickets by an Indian bowler in Test cricket. Ashwin has now taken 420 wickets in Tests in Asia, surpassing Anil Kumble (419 wickets). Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan (612) holds the record for most wickets in Test cricket.
