UK supports India's permanent membership of the UN Security Council

Britain has also supported India's bid for permanent membership of the UN Security Council. The United States and France have already pledged their support. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said India's membership would make it a more representative body.

In his address to the UN General Assembly in New York, Starmer said reforms are important to ensure that the global multilateral system is more representative and more responsive. In addition to providing permanent representation to India, Africa, Brazil, Japan and Germany, the UK sought more seats for elected members of the Security Council.

Pakistan PM raises Kashmir issue
Pakistan raised the Kashmir issue at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday. Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that India should revoke its decision to abrogate Article 370 and hold a dialogue on the Kashmir issue to secure durable peace in the region.of reneging on its commitment to implement the Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir instead of moving towards peace.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also met United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the new President of the UN General Assembly Philemon Yang. They also discussed Western Asia and Ukraine. Jaishankar supported Yang's views on "unity in diversity," "peace" and "sustainable humanity."
