Bhubaneshwar : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the development of a depression in the Bay of Bengal as a result of the formation of a low-pressure area, with a potential for intensification. Fishermen are cautioned against venturing into the sea, and those already at sea are advised to return to the coast before May 23. Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, stated that a low-pressure area has emerged in the South-West region adjacent to the Central Bay this morning.
The system is expected to move predominantly in a North-East direction, leading to the formation of a depression in the Bay of Bengal by May 26, with a likelihood of further strengthening. By the evening of the 25th, it is anticipated to reach the North-East area adjoining the North-West Bay of Bengal. The IMD reported that a low-pressure area has developed over the Southwest and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal due to the cyclonic circulation prevailing yesterday.
This system is projected to progress northeast wards and transform into a Depression over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal by the morning of May 24, before further intensifying and reaching the northeast and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by the evening of the 25th.
