He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (August 20). After his meeting with Modi, he attended an event organised by the Indian Council of World Affairs. He was asked about the extradition of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, who is accused of being involved in several terror activities. On this, Ibrahim Anwar gave a clear stand of Malaysia. "If we find any evidence against Zakir Naik, we will take appropriate action," Anwar said. However, we feel that any action in this regard should not have a negative impact on relations between the two countries.

"India has never raised this issue before. But I'm not just talking about one person. I am talking about terrorism. Our government will welcome whatever evidence India presents in the Zakir Naik case. We will consider the evidence. We are working with the government of India to deal with terrorism. Zakir Naik had fled India in 2017. He later fled to Malaysia. At that time, the government of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad had given him government protection.

Who is Zakir Naik? What is his grouse?
58-year-old Zakir Naik was born in Mumbai. He has done higher studies in medicine. At the age of 20 he began to engage in religious and cultural activities. He founded the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF). However, the government of India has banned this organization under the UAPA Act of 1967. Zakir Naik is accused of promoting religious enmity. Several cases have been filed against him across the country. He is also accused of being involved in several criminal activities. He was on the radar of the terrorist group. However, he fled to Malaysia.

Zakir Naik gave religious sermons on Peace TV. Through this, he used to spread hatred against other religions. Peace TV was founded in 2006. However, Peace TV has been banned in many countries including India, Canada, Britain and Bangladesh. The central government has also made serious allegations against Zakir Naik's IRF. IRF acts as a threat to India's security. The central government has also said that this institution is likely to disturb peace as well as social health and brotherhood.
