In Mavelikkara, a man was sentenced to life in prison for killing his sister with a garden hoe. The victim, Girija (47yrs), was struck on the head by the convict, Manikuttan, in October 2019. The verdict was delivered by Judge S5 Seena of the Mavelikkara District Additional Sessions Court. The second accused, Krishna, was acquitted and released.
The murder stemmed from a disagreement over their family home in Vathalur, Haripad. Following the argument, an enraged Manikuttan assaulted his sister with a hoe. Girija passed away while receiving treatment at Alappuzha Medical College. The charge sheet in the case was filed by Haripad's C Biju Nair, with prosecution handled by K Sajikumar.
