Panoor bomb blast : Police chuck political motive, claim target was rival gang.

Thalassery : The police remand reports regarding the bomb blast incident that resulted in the death of a CPM worker in Panoor revealed significant changes in the narrative compared to the initial information provided. The first three reports alleged that the suspects constructed the bomb with the intention of influencing the general election and targeting their political rivals. However, subsequent reports no longer mentioned this claim.

Interestingly, the conflict between two local factions, initially omitted in the reports, was later identified as the supposed reason behind the bomb-making in the following three reports. Inspector Prem Sadan from the Panoor police station presented these reports to the Thalassery Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.

The initial remand report dated April 6 explicitly mentioned that "the suspects created the bomb with the aim of deploying it against political adversaries and disrupting the personal lives of individuals during the general elections." It also highlighted that granting bail to the suspects could endanger the safety of local residents and opposition political activists. This position was reiterated in the reports dated April 7 and 8.

However, the fourth report stressed that bail should not be granted to the suspects during the Lok Sabha elections. These remand reports, filed by the police under Section 167 of the Criminal Procedure Code, offer insights into the changing directions of the investigation. On April 5, CPM activist Sherin lost her life in a bomb explosion in Panoor.

Another CPM activist, Vinish from Valiyaparamba, sustained severe injuries during the incident. Thirteen CPM activists, including members from three DYFI units, have been implicated in the case. A total of 15 individuals are accused in connection with Sherin's death. Vinish, the Valiyaparamba activist, has not been apprehended as he is currently receiving medical treatment.
