32 jeans factories that were causing pollution by destroying the green belt in Chinchpada, Vdarli area of Kalyan East were demolished by Assistant Commissioner of Division I, Hema Mumbarkar, along with the encroachment control team on Saturday. The residents of the area have been experiencing increased water and air pollution due to these factories. A few years back, polluting jeans factories were removed from urban areas of Ulhasnagar city following Supreme Court orders.
Citizens were cautious not to allow the re-establishment of these factories in their region due to the pollution they generated. However, some factory operators in collaboration with locals have been encroaching upon government and reserved open forest lands to set up jeans factories without official approval. In Chinchpada, Vdarli area of Kalyan East, operators had illegally constructed 32 jeans factories by destroying the green belt on both government and private lands, posing a threat to the area's biodiversity.
These factories were clandestinely erected using iron shelters, cement sheets, and illegally tapping power lines from Mahabhatiran. Local residents had lodged complaints with Hema Mumbarkar, Assistant Commissioner of Division I, regarding the pollution caused by these jeans factories. Upon investigation, Mumbarkar discovered that these factories were operating without any legal permits from the government or municipal authorities.
Acting on the orders of Commissioner Dr. Indurani Jakhar and Circle Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Misal, the Assistant Commissioner of Division I, Mumbarkar, with the assistance of a demolition team and JCB, demolished the 32 polluting factories that posed health hazards to the community. During the operation, it was revealed that the factory operators had been stealing electricity from Mahavitra, prompting the power supply to be disconnected.
