Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is set to keep the Rae Bareli seat, while his sister Priyanka Gandhi is slated to run for the Wayanad seat, as confirmed by party president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday. Priyanka will be making her debut in electoral politics through this opportunity.

After winning both the Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh and the Wayanad seat in Kerala during the Lok Sabha elections, a party meeting was convened to discuss the necessity of vacating one seat in accordance with the regulations.

Present at the meeting were Rahul, Priyanka, Kharge, former party president Sonia Gandhi, and general secretary K. C. Venugopal. It was agreed during the meeting that Priyanka Gandhi would be nominated for the Wayanad seat.

Though a challenging decision to relinquish the Wayanad seat for her, it was emphasized that the constituency would not be overlooked, ensuring that both Wayanad and Rae Bareli constituencies will each have two MPs.
