Jharkhand Police Recruitment 2024: Jharkhand Excise Department is going to conduct a competitive examination for the recruitment of constables. At the same time, the physical test criteria were changed for this exam. To show physical fitness, the condition was to run 10 km in one hour instead of 1.6 km at the same time. So far, 12 candidates have died of heart attack while running after standing in the queue since morning in the scorching heat. Many have been injured. The test was conducted on August 22. Only those who pass the physical test would be eligible for further written test and medical examination. However, after the death of 12 people, the recruitment process has been stopped and an investigation has been ordered.

The deceased candidates were aged between 19 and 31. A total of 1.87 lakh candidates took the physical test till September 2. Of these, 1.17 lakh candidates have qualified for the next round. For the first time since the formation of the state of Jharkhand in 2000, police recruitment is being done. Earlier, the recruitment was announced in 2008 and 2019, but the recruitment process could not be completed.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The recruitment process has been extended till September 9. The inquiry report has not been filed yet. However, the state government said that the recruitment was done as per the rules. According to the police, the deceased died due to a heart attack.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R.K. के. "Some candidates died suddenly. Some died on the way to hospital. An autopsy has been performed on all of them. The final report will take some time. Candidates are advised to go through a medical check-up before appearing for the exam.
I didn't run 10 miles
According to sources, the candidates who appeared for the physical test were not subjected to preliminary medical examination and had to run in high humidity. "After the death of Pradeep Kumar, his sister-in-law said," "My brother had never practiced running for 10 km." The women were tested from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Male candidates were then tested, which continued into the afternoon. It is being speculated that the candidates' health might have deteriorated due to the scorching heat.

Assam Chief Minister and BJP's Jharkhand election in-charge Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) government was responsible for the deaths as the recruitment process was carried out without any preparation. The BJP has severely criticised the MIM.
