On Wednesday, The Supreme Court ruled that the arrest of News Click founder Prabir Purkayastha under the anti-terror law was invalid and ordered his release from custody. Justices B.R. Gavai and Sandeep Mehta issued the order.

The FIR stated that the news portal allegedly received substantial funds from China with the intention of undermining India's sovereignty and inciting disaffection against the country. It further alleged that Purkayastha conspired with the People’s Alliance for Democracy and Secularism (PADS) to disrupt the electoral process during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
