TDN

In Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district, a Naxalite was shot dead by security forces on Sunday, as confirmed by a police official. The incident occurred during an anti-Naxalite operation led by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) team under Dhamtari Superintendent of Police Anjneya Varshney. The gun battle ensued at 3:30 pm in a forest near Muhkot-Aamjhar villages under Khallari police station limits.

SP Varshney reported that the exchange of fire initiated while the patrolling team was sealing off the Muhkot-Aamjhar forest. Following the Naxalites' escape into the forest upon being surrounded by security forces, a search of the area uncovered the body of a Naxalite, along with a self-loading rifle (SLR), Maoist literature, and everyday items.

The identity of the deceased extremist remains unknown, with plans to resume the search operation on Monday morning. This incident marks the death of 133 Naxalites this year in various clashes with security forces in Chhattisgarh.

Specifically, 131 Maoists were killed in the Bastar division, encompassing seven districts, while two militants were eliminated in Dhamtari district, a part of the Raipur division. On May 11, another Naxalite was killed in an encounter in Dhamtari district.
