Sri Lankan President thanks PM Modi for support in joint projects

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for their consistent support to the island nation. Wickremesinghe and EAM Jaishankar met in Colombo to inaugurate the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) funded by a $6 million grant from India.

The President highlighted the joint efforts to benefit the Indian-origin Tamil community in Sri Lanka through various projects. Wickremesinghe shared his vision for the future of Sri Lanka-India relations during the 31st All India Partner’s Meet 2024 in Colombo, emphasizing the importance of collaborative initiatives for mutual development goals.

He discussed key projects such as the grid interconnection, the Sampur solar power project, and initiatives to harness wind and solar energy in the northern province.

The President also mentioned plans to expand the Kankesanthurai Port and enhance land connectivity between the two countries. Wickremesinghe invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Sri Lanka during his attendance at the Prime Minister's swearing-in ceremony in New Delhi on June 9.
