Veteran Rahul Dravid confirmed on Monday that the T20 World Cup will mark his final tournament as the head coach of the Indian team. Dravid's decision had been under discussion as he chose not to re-apply to the Board of Control for Cricket in India for the position, despite the BCCI inviting applications last month. During a media conversation, Dravid expressed his appreciation for his time as head coach, highlighting the significance of every tournament and match for him.

Reflecting on his tenure since assuming the role in November 2021, Dravid emphasized his enjoyment of working with the team but cited current busyness and life circumstances as factors in his decision not to seek reappointment. Ahead of India's opening World Cup match against Ireland, Dravid reiterated his passion for the job and the importance of each match.

While speculation surrounding Gautam Gambhir potentially taking over as head coach grows, no official confirmation has been made regarding his application. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah clarified the intention to appoint a single coach for all three formats for a 3.5-year term. Gambhir, amid speculation, expressed his desire to coach the Indian team, emphasizing the honor of representing the nation and the support of the Indian populace in achieving success on the global stage.
