In an online auction organized by the Khairtabad Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Hyderabad, a premium vehicle registration number plate was sold for Rs.25.5 lakh. The number plate "TG 09 9999" was acquired for Rs.25,50,002 by Sony Transport Solutions for their Toyota Land Cruiser. The transport department generated a total revenue of Rs.43,70,284 in one day through the auction of a new series of numbers.
Earlier in March, the RTA collected Rs.30 lakh from the auction of fancy TG number plates. With the Telangana government's recent decision to change the state's abbreviation from 'TS' to 'TG,' there has been speculation about the necessity of updating old vehicle number plates in Telangana.
New vehicle registrations will be provided with TG number plates, while existing registrations will remain unchanged. The first TG number plate, TG 09 0001, fetched an impressive Rs.9.61 lakh at the auction.
