India has opened its medal account at the Paris Paralympics 2024 with a gold and a bronze medal. India's Avani Lekhara won the gold medal in the women's shot put. She won a medal in the 10m air rifle SH1 final event. Mona Agarwal won the bronze medal.

On the second day of the Paris Paralympics 2024, India has started its campaign by winning two medals in the same competition. Avani Lekhara performed well in the qualification round and made it to the final. Avani had finished second in the qualification round with a score of 625.8 and narrowly missed the Paralympic record. Her score was just 0.2 -point short of the Paralympic record. Mona was in fifth place.


Avani Lekhara won the gold medal with a score of 249.7.She had scored 249.6 points at the Tokyo Paralympics. This is Avani's second consecutive gold medal at the Paralympics. Mona Agarwal scored 228.7 points. Korea's Lee Eun-ri won the silver medal.


Avani Lekhara creates history with her golden feat
Avani Lekhara hails from Jaipur and is a star para shooter. At the Tokyo Paralympics, she won a gold medal in the 10 metre air rifle and a bronze medal in the 50 metre rifle three-position. Now with the medal win in Paris, she has now become the first Indian woman para-athlete to win a gold medal in 2 consecutive Paralympics.

12 years ago, Avni met with a terrible car accident in which she suffered a serious spinal cord injury. Inspired by Abhinav Bindra's autobiography, she started practicing shooting and has now created a new history by winning gold medals in 2 consecutive Paralympics.
