Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP Jawhar Sircar has resigned from the Rajya Sabha in protest against the assault on female doctors at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. In this regard, the CM wrote a letter to TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. He also accused the Mamata Banerjee government of indulging in corruption.
"Extremely saddened by the tragic incident at RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata. I had hoped that Mamata Banerjee would intervene in the matter in her old style. However, that didn't happen. After this terrible incident at the hospital, I endured patiently for a month. It was expected that Mamata Banerjee would meet these doctors and discuss. But that didn't happen. Trust in me. This anger of the people is against the attitude of some people and corrupt people. I have never seen such distrust against the government in my entire tenure, "he said.
What did the government say in the letter?
"After the rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, the state government has taken a stand. But if the government had taken immediate action against the concerned administrative officials, the situation in Bengal would have been restored earlier. The party leaders at the local level in panchayats and municipalities in the state have amassed huge wealth. This caused huge losses to the state. Not only this, the party leaders have also amassed huge wealth, "he said.
I will go to Delhi and submit my resignation.
