In Malappuram, two young girls, who were relatives attending a Nikah ceremony, tragically drowned in a quarry. The victims have been identified as Reja Fathima (8yrs), daughter of Mohammed Shareef from Kannadiparamb House in Valliyaparamb, Pulikkal, and Jiya (9yrs), daughter of Jamsheer from Mambatta Chola in Pookkottumpadam. The incident took place at a quarry near Podiyad in Melmuri. Both girls are cousins.

The girls went missing after their uncle's Nikah ceremony in the morning. A search was launched after a neighbor revealed that the girls had been seen heading towards the quarry. Later that evening, their lifeless bodies were discovered around a kilometer away in the quarry. The bodies will be released to the family following a post-mortem examination at Manjeri Medical College. Jiya, a second-grade student at Goodwill English School in Pookottumpadam, is survived by her mother Sunila. Reja Fathima, a third-grade student at Valiaparambu West AM LPS, is the daughter of Shamla, a member of Pulikal gram panchayat ward seven.
