In a disturbing turn of events, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has presented a charge sheet containing significant evidence against Sanjay Roy, a Kolkata Police civic volunteer, regarding the rape and murder of a 31-year-old woman doctor, referred to as 'V.' The charge sheet, submitted to a local court on Monday, includes 11 pieces of incriminating evidence, such as DNA reports and blood samples, linking Roy to the horrific crime that took place at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Among the key findings, the CBI confirmed the presence of Roy's DNA on the victim's body, along with blood stains belonging to 'V' found on his clothing. The investigation further revealed that Roy had sustained blunt force injuries consistent with signs of struggle, indicating a violent confrontation with the victim. CCTV footage captured during the night of the crime substantiates Roy's presence in the hospital, particularly in the emergency building where the crime occurred. The charge sheet meticulously details the circumstances surrounding the case.

It highlights the discovery of a Bluetooth earphone at the crime scene, which matched the accused's mobile phone, further establishing his connection to the location. In addition, forensic reports indicated signs of sexual assault, with injuries in the victim's private areas suggesting forceful penetration. The CBI also noted attempts by police officials and hospital authorities to cover up evidence related to the case. Former police officer Abhijit Mondal and ex-principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, have been arrested for allegedly trying to hinder the investigation.

Both are currently in judicial custody as inquiries into a possible broader conspiracy continue. The charge sheet specifies that the cause of death was determined to be asphyxia due to manual strangulation and smothering, with rigor mortis indicating she had died approximately 12 to 18 hours before the autopsy. The CBI has interviewed 128 witnesses, including the victim's parents, in pursuit of justice for 'V.'

As the investigation unfolds, the CBI has assured that a supplementary final report will be filed following further inquiries. The case has sparked outrage within the community, highlighting ongoing concerns about violence against women and the need for systemic changes to ensure justice.
