TDN

Jerusalem – In light of the intensifying violence in Lebanon, the Indian Embassy in Beirut has issued a critical advisory urging Indian nationals to refrain from traveling to the country and advising those currently present to exit as soon as possible. The call for action comes amid escalating hostilities following nearly a year of conflict that began with Hezbollah rocket attacks on northern Israel, prompting retaliatory strikes from Israeli forces.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, over 200,000 people have been displaced in Lebanon as a result of the ongoing violence. The situation worsened significantly on Wednesday, with Lebanon's health minister reporting that Israeli airstrikes resulted in the deaths of 51 individuals and injuries to 223 more. In a statement shared on the social media platform X, the Indian Embassy reiterated an advisory initially issued on August 1, 2024, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.

“In view of the recent developments and escalations in the region, Indian nationals are strongly advised against traveling to Lebanon till further notice,” the advisory stated. For those already in Lebanon, the embassy strongly urged them to leave the country and emphasized the importance of exercising extreme caution for those who choose to remain.

Indian nationals were advised to limit their movements and stay in touch with the embassy for assistance. Contacts were provided for individuals needing support, including an email address and an emergency phone number. As the situation continues to deteriorate, the Indian government's priority remains the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad. The embassy's advisory serves as a crucial reminder for Indians in Lebanon to take immediate action in the face of rising tensions and violence.
