The police have arrested two persons for illegally transporting gutka worth lakhs of rupees. A case has been registered against the two under various sections of the IPC. The action took place on Saturday. The incident took place in front of Sonmarg theatre in Virani Steel Galli in Lohianagar area at around 11.30 pm.

Aqib Shakeel Sheikh (A.P. Lohianagar, Pune) Nizamuddin Mehboob Sheikh (A.P. Kondhwa) has been booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 123, 223, 274,275,3 (5) Food Safety Standards 30 (2) (a) 31 (1) 26 (2) (I) 26 (2) (IV) Prohibition and Restriction on Sale. Constable Harshal Chandrakant Dudam (42) has lodged a complaint at Khadak police station.

Action is being taken against those involved in illegal sale and transportation of banned gutkha in Khadak police station limits. On Saturday night, while patrolling the area, the investigation team came to know that two pago tempos were set up in front of Sonmarg theatre in Lohianagar area and gutkha was being transported from there.

Accordingly, a total of Rs.10,21,200 cash and two tempos of pan masala and flavoured tobacco (gutkha), banned by the Maharashtra government, were seized. When the accused Aqib was questioned, he said that Nizamuddin Sheikh had given the banned gutkha to other customers. Further investigation is done by the police.
