Lok Sabha Speaker Bars MPs from Adding Reflections During Pledge

Correction comes amid contestation over some MPs raising taglines like" Jai Palestine"," Jai Hindu Rashtra" while taking pledge.

New Delhi Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has amended administrative rules to circumscribe recently tagged MPs from using any fresh words or reflections before or after taking the pledge or protestation of class. The Speaker has made an correction to Rule 389 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha( Seventeenth Edition).

According to the correction, a “ member shall make and subscribe pledge or protestation, as the case may be, in agreement with the form set out for the purpose, in the Third Schedule to the Constitution of India and shall not use any word or expression or make any comment as a prefix or suffix to the form of pledge or protestation. ”

The correction comes amid contestation over some MPs raising taglines like “ Jai Palestine ”, “ Jai Hindu Rashtra ” while taking pledge. lately, AIMIM principal Asaduddin Owaisi raised taglines of ‘ Jai Bhim, Jai Mim, Jai Telangana and ‘ Jai Palestine ’ in the House after taking pledge as an MP. piecemeal from Owaisi, some other MPs were also seen raising taglines before or after taking pledge.
