‘Mass Hiring’ Fraudster Posing as Senior CTS HR Arrested

TDN

Hyderabad: In a shocking turn of events, Cyberabad cyber crimes police have apprehended a woman in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, for orchestrating a widespread job scam that has defrauded numerous job seekers out of nearly Rs 58.75 lakh. The accused, identified as Reshma alias Swapna, 30, allegedly posed as a senior human resource manager at the multinational corporation Cognizant (CTS) and lured desperate job seekers with promises of employment. The fraudulent scheme involved contacting job seekers via phone calls, claiming there were mass hiring opportunities in well-known companies like Cognizant and IBM.

After collecting resumes, Reshma would demand advance payments from the prospective employees, utilizing email addresses that closely resembled official company emails, which further deceived the victims. According to police reports, Reshma and her accomplices—Mohammed Ali, Pydi Supreethi, Firdous, and Fazil Patel—would provide multiple bank accounts for victims to transfer funds. Once the payments were received, the scammers would cut off all communication, leaving the victims in a lurch and without any job prospects.

The Cyberabad police have highlighted the need for job seekers and citizens to remain vigilant and cautious of such scams. They emphasized that no legitimate employer would ever ask for payment in exchange for employment opportunities. The police have urged anyone experiencing similar fraudulent encounters to report them immediately through the cybercrime hotline at 1930 or the dedicated cyber crimes portal. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the lengths to which scammers will go in exploiting the vulnerable, and the importance of verification in the job application process.
