Massive Mephedrone Bust: 900 kg Seized Near Bhopal Worth Rs 1,814 Crore

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh – In a significant crackdown on drug production, authorities have seized a staggering 907.09 kg of mephedrone (MD) and its manufacturing materials valued at Rs 1,814 crore from a factory located in the Bagroda Industrial Division near Bhopal. The operation, a collaborative effort between the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), marks a historic milestone as it represents the largest amount of MD confiscated by the Gujarat ATS to date.

The raid revealed that the factory had the capacity to produce up to 25 kg of MD per day, showcasing the scale of illegal drug manufacturing operations in the region. During the joint operation, both Amit Chaturvedi, aged 57, and Sanyal Bane, aged 40, were arrested in connection with the illicit activity. Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghvi, commended the police forces for their swift action and diligent efforts in combating drug trafficking and ensuring public safety.

The seized materials included 907.09 kg of MD in both solid and liquid forms, as well as approximately 5,000 kg of raw materials required for its production, including various chemicals. Notably, Sanyal Bane is no stranger to the law; he was previously incarcerated for five years following his arrest in 2017 for his involvement in an MD case in Amboli, Maharashtra.

After his release, he allegedly conspired with Chaturvedi to restart illegal drug manufacturing, leading to the establishment of the factory just six months ago. As authorities continue to investigate the network behind this substantial drug operation, this successful bust underscores the ongoing battle against narcotics and the commitment of law enforcement agencies to dismantle illegal drug production in India.
