Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh – A second-year MBBS student was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Shahjahanpur, prompting an investigation by local authorities. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Kushagra Pratap Singh, was a student at Varun Arjun Medical College. Originally from Gorakhpur, Kushagra's body was discovered behind the college hostel after he reportedly fell from the third floor. The unsettling incident unfolded on Sunday, igniting concerns among students and faculty alike. Colonel (Retd) Dr. Rabindra Nath Shukla, the principal of Varun Arjun Medical College, confirmed the details surrounding Kushagra’s death.
"Kushagra was a dedicated student who lived on the ground floor of our hostel," he stated. "We informed the police immediately upon discovering his body, and they have since initiated an investigation." Authorities are grappling with the circumstances of Kushagra's death. Superintendent of Police Rajesh S commented, "Initially, it appears that Kushagra either fell from the rooftop of the hostel or may have been pushed. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and we are awaiting results to determine the exact cause of death."
Meanwhile, family members have been notified, and a case has been formally registered, with police actively pursuing leads. This tragic incident comes on the heels of another recent case in Uttar Pradesh, where another MBBS student from Meerut reportedly took his own life, supposedly due to academic pressure and family financial burdens. While that situation was labeled a suicide by authorities, the family alleged foul play, drawing attention to the mental health challenges faced by students in high-pressure environments.
As the investigation into Kushagra's death continues, students and parents are left grappling with fear and uncertainty, calling for greater attention to mental health resources and safety measures within educational institutions. The unfolding narrative raises critical questions about student welfare and the need for support systems to prevent such tragedies in the future.
