TDN

Hyderabad — In a significant move to address the representation of Backward Classes in Telangana, a delegation from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) met with the chairman of the Backward Classes (BC) Commission on Wednesday, urging for a separate caste survey specifically for the BC-E class. This request comes alongside the ongoing initiative to survey 14 other sub-classes, all of which are eligible for a 4 percent reservation in the state. The Telangana government had previously issued orders on October 11 for a comprehensive door-to-door household survey.

This survey aims to gather socio-economic, educational, employment, political, and caste-related information from residents across the state. The Telangana Backward Classes Commission will collaborate with the planning department to ensure the survey's success. The BC Commission is tasked with determining the percentage of reservations to be allocated to Backward Classes in local bodies, based on the findings of this caste survey. To facilitate widespread input, the commission plans to tour all districts, commencing public hearings in the original ten district headquarters starting October 24.

A notification outlining the details of this initiative is expected to be released soon. To engage multiple perspectives in the process, the commission will also consult various stakeholders and intends to hold meetings with intellectuals from the Backward Classes in the near future. AIMIM's request emphasizes the inclusion of the following 14 sub-classes in the upcoming caste survey: 1. Achchukattalavandlu 2. Singali 3. Singamvallu 4. Achchupanivallu 5. Achchukattuvaru 6. Achukatlavandlu 7. Attar Saibulu 8. Attarollu 9. Dhobi Muslin / Muslin Dlhobi / Dhobi Musalman 10. Faqir, Fhakir Budbudki, Ghanti Fhakir, Ghanta Fhakirlu 11.
