Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has completed the work on the southern section of the Thane Creek Bridge-3 project, which runs from Mumbai to Pune. Now the MSRDC has decided to introduce this line in the traffic service before the code of conduct for the assembly elections is issued.

The road will be opened in the first week of September. If this corridor is opened for traffic, then there will be an option of new Thane creek bridge-3 along with creek bridge-2 to go from Mumbai to Pune. As a result, the Mumbai-Pune highway is moving very fast. At present, there are two expressways on the Mumbai-Pune route. Against this backdrop, MSRDC has taken up the Thane Creek Bridge-3 project. However, the project got delayed due to technical reasons. However, the project has been put on hold. Anil Kumar Gaikwad, managing director of MSRDC, told Loksatta that the work on the southern corridor of the project from Mumbai to Pune has been completed.. Efforts are being made to take the time of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to inaugurate this corridor.

If the southern side is opened for traffic, it will be a big relief for drivers and passengers going from Mumbai to Pune. Another transport option along with Thane Creek Bridge-2 will be available in the form of Thane Creek Bridge-3. With this, the traffic congestion on Bay Bridge-2 will be removed and the Mumbai-Pune journey will be faster. At the same time, passengers and drivers will have to wait for four more months for a traffic jam-free and fast travel between Pune and Mumbai. About 75 per cent of the work on the Mumbai-Pune corridor has been completed. the line will be open for traffic in January 2025, Gaikwad said. Therefore, the Pune-Mumbai route via Thane creek bridge-3 will have to wait till January 2025.
