The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs 90 lakh on Tata Group-owned Air India for operating a flight with an untrained pilot. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6 lakh and Rs 3 lakh on Air India Director Pankul Mathur and Director Training Manish Vasavada respectively.

Air India operated the flight with untrained pilots. There were no safety concerns. "This is a very serious incident," the DGCA said in a statement. The police have been instructed to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future.

The incident came to light after the airline submitted a report on July 10. The DGCA then carried out an inspection of the company's operations, documents and scheduling. Serious errors have been found in the investigation. A show-cause notice was issued in the case on July 22. The DGCA said it has not received any satisfactory response from the stakeholders in the matter. Air India has been fined Rs 90 lakh.
