Gunmen launched an attack on a village in Nigeria, resulting in the death of 40 individuals. The perpetrators fired recklessly and set numerous houses ablaze, alongside kidnapping several residents. Notably, conflicts between farmers and herders are common in the area, with the incident occurring in Plateau State, situated in north-central Nigeria. Local residents fear the death toll may rise, as the assailants, escaping security forces in the Plateau Bangala forests, targeted the villages of Jurak and Dakai.

Security forces managed to eliminate seven attackers during the confrontation, but the fleeing bandits claimed the lives of nine individuals. Witnesses reported a significant number of casualties, with dozens of gunmen descending upon the village on motorcycles, engaging in indiscriminate shooting, abductions, and arson.

Despite the chaos, some residents, like Babangida Aliyu, managed to evade harm, while others, such as Timothy Haruna, recounted the tragic loss of life, rampant kidnappings, and widespread destruction of property.
