India has surpassed Australia, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Singapore, and Korea to become the country with the highest data centre capacity of 950 MW in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding China), as per a private report released on Wednesday. According to a report by real estate consultancy CBRE, India is projected to have the highest capacity addition of 850 MW during the 2024-2026 period, surpassing other major APAC countries.
The report highlights India's data centre sector as an attractive investment opportunity, having secured over USD 40 billion in investment commitments between 2018 and 2023 from global and domestic investors. In 2023, there was an increase of 255 MW in new supply compared to 200 MW in 2022, resulting in a total stock of around 1,030 MW by the end of the year.
This growth is set to continue in 2024, with planned supply exceeding 330 MW across various cities, potentially raising the stock by 30% annually to reach approximately 1,370 MW, as per the report.
