In the latest update from the Election Commission of India, it was reported that 63.37 percent of voters, totaling 7.05 crore out of 11.13 crore eligible voters, have participated in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections during the sixth phase. This phase encompassed voting for 58 seats across eight states on May 25. Across the initial six phases of the Lok Sabha elections, a total of 57.77 crore voters out of 87.54 crore eligible voters have cast their votes.
The voter turnout for the sixth phase of the 2019 general elections, which included 59 seats in seven states, stood at 64.4 percent. During the fifth phase of polling on May 20, the Election Commission documented a 62.2 percent voter turnout. The fourth phase witnessed a 69.16 percent voter turnout, marking a 3.65 percent increase compared to the corresponding phase in the 2019 general elections. In the third phase, the voter turnout was recorded at 65.68 percent, slightly lower than the 68.4 percent recorded during the same phase in the 2019 elections.
The second phase of this year's elections saw a voter turnout of 66.71 percent, while the first phase recorded a 66.14 percent voter turnout. An interesting trend observed in the sixth phase was the higher participation of women voters. Data released by the Election Commission showed that women voters out numbered male voters by 3 percent for the second consecutive time in the Lok Sabha elections.
Female voter attendance at polling stations surpassed that of men even during the fifth phase. Specifically, in the sixth phase, 61.95 percent of eligible male voters and 64.95 percent of eligible female voters exercised their voting rights. Notably, in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh, female voter turnout exceeded that of male voters.
