Vasai: In a shocking incident, two minor girls of Adarsh Vidyamandir School in Badlapur were allegedly sexually assaulted by the staff of the school. A 16-year-old boy working in the hostel of Our Lady of Velankanni School in Naigaon allegedly sexually assaulted a 7-year-old girl four to five times. Police have arrested the accused teenager.
The girl is a student of Class II. On August 22, she was not ready to go to the school canteen. After she told the teacher that her uncle, who works in the canteen, used to harass her, the teacher reported the matter to principal Melvin Sequeira. When they immediately questioned the girl, she said the 16-year-old boy, who works in a canteen on the school premises, had been sexually abusing her for the past 15 days. Interestingly, once the girl had also informed this at her home but they did not take it seriously then. Headmaster Melvin Sequeira immediately informed the Naigaon police. "We have arrested the accused under the POCSO Act," Naigaon police station's senior police inspector Ramesh Bhame said.
Tiwari runs a canteen in the school. The boy had come from Uttar Pradesh to work two months ago. Police have seized the CCTV footage for investigation. The police are also probing if any other person was involved in the case. The girl's parents did not lodge a complaint. However, the principal informed the police about the incident.
The safety of our children is taken care of. The school has 65 to 70 CCTV cameras. The incident is unfortunate. So, we lodged a complaint with the police, "said principal Melvin Sequeira.
