During the meeting, Narendra Modi was reaffirmed as the leader of the parliamentary party. In his address, Modi highlighted the government's achievements over the past decade and criticized the Congress party.
Notably, Modi mentioned the NDA alliance approximately 39 times in his 48-minute speech. Unlike in 2014 and 2019, when the BJP secured power independently, this year's election outcome necessitates the involvement of NDA constituent parties. Previously, NDA allies had raised concerns about the BJP's treatment of them, feeling undervalued and receiving less significant ministerial positions.
However, the post-election scenario has shifted significantly. With BJP falling short of a majority this time, the role of NDA constituent parties is crucial. Modi's increased emphasis on the NDA reflects this change. The opposition has seized on this shift, underscoring the importance of NDA's component parties to the BJP. Consequently, discussions surrounding the NDA have surged in political circles following Modi's speech.
The 2024 Lok Sabha election outcome marks a significant departure for the BJP. Having secured clear majorities in the previous two elections, the party faced challenges this year, winning 240 seats out of 543. The NDA secured 293 seats, highlighting the diminished numbers for the BJP. With 32 seats needed for a majority, the significance of constituent parties has risen. This development was underscored during Modi's speech.
