Chennai : The well-known actress Baby Girija has passed away at the age of 83yrs. She breathed her last on Saturday at her residence in Anna Nagar, Chennai. Girija gained popularity in Malayalam cinema with her role in the movie 'Jeevitha Nouka', which was released in 1951. Directed by K.Venbu, Baby Girija (P.P.Girija) portrayed the childhood character of the female lead played by B.S.Saroja.
Over the years, she appeared in several Malayalam films such as 'Achan', 'Vishappinde Vili', 'Premalekha', 'Avan Varunnu', and 'Puthra Dharmam'. Born to Ananthan and Sunitha, who were natives of Kannur, Girija's family relocated to Alappuzha due to her father's job, which eventually led her to a career in the film industry.
Apart from acting, Girija was also a skilled dancer. In her later years, she retired from acting and took up a position at the Indian Overseas Bank in Chennai following her husband's passing. The couple did not have any children. The cremation of Girija will take place in Chennai on Sunday.
