The Indian government has expressed concern following the outbreak of violence in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. In light of this, the Indian Embassy has advised Indian students in Kyrgyzstan to remain indoors. Additionally, students are urged to maintain communication with the Indian Embassy, as stated by Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar.
A dedicated contact number has been provided by the Indian Embassy for student assistance. Currently, there are 15,000 Indian students pursuing their studies in Kyrgyzstan. In response to the situation, the Indian Embassy has issued a social media post on platform X, advising Indian students to exercise caution. The message reassured that the situation in Bishkek is currently stable, with ongoing communication between the Embassy and Indian students.
Despite the tense peace, students are advised to stay indoors and utilize the provided contact number for any required assistance. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of Indian students maintaining contact with the embassy during the situation in Bishkek. He urged students to heed the advisory, emphasizing the controlled nature of the current circumstances.
The incident occurred on May 13, involving a physical altercation between foreign and local students in a Bishkek hostel. Following police intervention, some local students were arrested. Subsequently, other students targeted Pakistani students, alleging inaction against the perpetrators, leading to property damage and misconduct. In response to the events, Pakistan, like India, has directed its students to remain indoors.
Reports circulating on social media claimed the deaths of three Pakistani students in the incident, though this information remains unconfirmed. The Kyrgyz government stated no official reports of casualties have been received, affirming control over the situation and additional police deployment in Bishkek.
